That was when Union General Gordon Granger led troops to Galveston, TX to announce the ending of the Civil War (which was actually two months before) and that slaves were \"officially\" free.Juneteenth became a holiday in 1980 and some of the traditional foods is watermelon, bbq, and soul food (especially greens and black-eyed peas), which brings me to this DELICIOUS VEGAN SOUL FOOD DINNER.
